Land-based Air Traffic Control Radar

IMG_7624-2.JPG

Land-based radar is likely to be the most powerful and heaviest of any sort of radar. So their slip rings may be carrying hundreds of amps as well as very large amounts of data. Therefore the slip ring assembly may include rotary microwave wave guides, rotary microwave coaxial joints and rotary hydraulic joints for cooling. These radars may have a much heavier duty cycle than military radars so millions of rotations or oscillations may be necessary between servicing and some of the slip ring assemblies may be on rather inaccessible towers. Some air traffic control radars rotate rapidly . So there are not just large capability demands on a slip ring assembly for this application but there are severe endurance demands as well.
